During my Sophomore year at Alma College, I participated in a Spring Term course to study Martin Luther and the Reformation--in Germany. In addition, 2017 (the year we went) was also the 500th anniversary of the nailing of the 95 theses which started the whole Reformation in the first place! For nearly three weeks, our class packed up and ventured over the Atlantic to experience German culture and see the birthplace of the movement that came to shape the world as we know it with our own eyes.
There were certainly ups and downs, but no matter what, everyday was filled with adventure that we never could have imagined. Though few of us spoke any German, we still managed to get off the beaten path, talk with the locals, and live as much of the culture as we could during our short stay.
